At 19 years old, Kathy Ku saw a problem and began working towards a solution. 10,000 people in Uganda were dying every year from drinking dirty water. Instead of taking a job with a consulting firm after graduation, Kathy stayed in Eastern Uganda with 2 colleagues to set up Spouts of Water.

Two-time Winner, Ian Thorpe has taken home the top prize for two outstanding innovations – The Elephant Pump in 2005, and the Elephant Toilet in 2008. Presenting both times on behalf of Pump Aid, the charity helps rural communities in Africa gain access to clean water and appropriate sanitation.

2 years ago, a young man named Vitor Belota Gomes was waiting in a lobby when, out of seemingly nowhere, he began to celebrate. Vitor had just received a very important email to say that Liter of Light Brazil, of which he was President, had just been shortlisted for the St Andrews Prize for the Environment 2016.
